Understanding Your Bill

Customer Charge

The Customer Charge pays for the cost to service an electric account including metering, administrative and billing services. The Customer Charge is not dependent on the amount of electricity used.

Distribution Charge

The Distribution Charge pays for the costs of local delivery of electricity to retail customers. It covers the costs to build and maintain the local electric system, including substations, transformers, poles, and wires, as well as administrative and other costs necessary to run the utility.

Dist Adjust Chg / Cr

The Distribution Adjustment Charge / Credit represents the difference between the utilities average cost of local delivery of electricity to retail customers and the base delivery costs. It is calculated as a charge or credit over time in order to levelized fluctuations in actual delivery costs.

Power Consumption Charge

The Power Consumption Charge pays for the costs related to the generation and purchase of electricity, transmission of that electricity from its source to the utility, and other costs necessary to meet our customers energy needs.

Power Adjust Chg / Cr

The Power Adjustment Charge / Credit represents the difference between the utilities average power costs and the base power costs. It is calculated as a charge or credit over time in order to levelized fluctuations in actual power costs.

NYPA Credit

The NYPA Credit represents savings realized from low cost hydroelectric projects; these savings are applied to all residential customers kWh as a credit.
